Slide Programs:  I have a number of slide programs on natural history topics that I can present to your organization, group, or club. The programs last about 45 minutes to 1 hour, and usually involve an introduction, followed by the main slide presentation, and then time for questions afterwards. Sound, such as bird songs or animal sounds, is sometimes incorporated into the programs.

Alligator

Audience:  These programs are designed for groups that are interested in natural history and travel topics and have a strong emphasis on birds and bird watching. They are intended for an adult audience.

Gray Crowned Crane

Fee:  The fee is $100.00 per program, plus mileage. A minimum of two weeks advance notice is preferred, but in an emergency, I may be available on very short notice.

PROGRAMS

 

Black-tailed Jackrabbit

Arizona: Southeast Arizona Birding: Explore this “hot” birding destination with pictures of birds and wildlife from famous locations such as Saguaro National Park, Madera Canyon, Patagonia, and the San Pedro River. You’ll also learn about some of the plants and animals that make this part of the country such a special place.

Capercaille

Finland & Arctic Norway: From Helsinki to Lapland: In this fascinating program, you’ll journey to one of Europe’s last wild places, traveling from southern Finland all the way to Norway’s Varanger Fjord. Highlights include pictures of reindeer, owls, seabirds, and dramatic landscapes. You’ll also hear a few facts about Finnish culture and history.

Roseate Spoonbill

Florida: Birds & Natural History: Take a trip to south Florida’s famous Everglades National Park, Sanibel Island, and Corkscrew Swamp. Many large and colorful birds make their homes here and the beautiful pictures of herons, terns, shorebirds and other birds presented here will take your breath away.

Rock Wren

Nevada: Great Basin Birds & Natural History: Tour northeast Nevada, an area of classic basin and range topography, and surprising beauty. You’ll see pictures from the Ruby Mountains, Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, and Great Basin National Park. Pronghorn antelope, abundant waterfowl, and three-thousand-year-old bristlecone pine trees are all found here. Few people have seen this remote area of the country.

Shorebirds

New Brunswick: Shorebirds & Tides in the Bay of Fundy: Learn about the dramatic tides of the Bay of Fundy and the thousands of shorebirds that migrate through here each year on their way south for the winter. You’ll also see pictures from the boreal forests and bogs of Fundy National Park, and the extensive boardwalks of the Sackville Waterfowl Park.

Wandering Albatross

New Zealand: Birds & Natural History: Visit the South Pacific island nation of New Zealand. You’ll travel to North, South, and Stewart Islands and learn about the native habitats and birds that are found there. Highlights include pictures of Wandering Albatross and Fjordland Crested Penguin, and the spectacular glacially-carved Milford Sound.

Surfbirds

Oregon & California: Birding in Klamath Basin & the Coastal Redwoods: This program focuses on fall bird migration in the Pacific Northwest, and the diverse habitats of the area that attract many birds. You’ll visit the Klamath Basin where thousands of waterfowl stop each fall, and the northern California coast, with its gigantic redwood trees and jagged shoreline. Pictures from Crater Lake and Redwood National Parks are included.

Tawny Eagle

Tanzania: Serengeti Wildlife Safari: Pictures of classic African wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, wildebeests, ostriches, and eagles highlight this program, as we travel the safari circuit in northern Tanzania. You’ll see pictures from Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti National Parks and hear first-hand what it is like to be on safari.

Audubon's Oriole

Texas: Birding the Rio Grande Valley: Learn about the unique bird life that occurs in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas and attracts thousands of bird watchers to this area each year. Nearly thirty bird species occur here that are essentially Mexican, including Green Jay, Altamira Oriole and White-tailed Hawk. There will also be pictures from Rockport, just north of the Valley, where the endangered Whooping Crane spends the winter months.

Blue-gray Tanager

Trinidad & Tobago: Tropical Birding: Visit the famous Asa Wright Nature Centre in Trinidad and learn about the honeycreepers, hummingbirds, motmots and other tropical birds that are found on the grounds of this former coffee and citrus plantation. Also included are pictures of the large flocks of Scarlet Ibis that roost in Caroni Swamp each night, and the Red-billed Tropicbirds and Rufous-vented Chachalacas that are found on the island of Tobago.

Iceland: Land of Fire & Ice: Journey to Europe's largest island to see volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, and scenic coastal landscapes. We'll also learn about Iceland's large populations of colonial nesting seabirds, such as Atlantic Puffins, Northern Fulmar, Arctic Tern, and Black-legged Kittiwakes. These pictures and stories come from three journeys taken to Iceland during the summers of 2004 and 2006.

Kenya: Birds & Wildlife Safari: Travel to East Africa to see incredible birds and wildlife. You'll see pictures from Samburu, and the Masai Mara, as well as Lakes Baringo, Bogoria, and Naivasha, and learn about the area's diverse birds and wildlife. Mammal pictures include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, oryx, and gerenuk. Bird pictures include Tacazze Sunbird, Hadada Ibis, and Grey Crowned Crane.
